Creamed Potatoes
Creamed potatoes — yes, a bit too much in the dish there … © kvalifood.com
Video Recipe - A simple dish that is always popular. Whatever the occasion. Potatoes in thin slices, cream, cheese, and seasoning. What could go wrong?
Ingredients
- 1200 g potatoes
- 2 small onions (200 g)
- 200 g cheese, grated
- 1/2 nutmeg, grated
- 2 1/2 dl heavy cream
- 1/2 tbsp salt
- 200 g bacon, diced
Directions
I usually pick a baking dish that is just big enough to hold the potatoes needed. A rule of thumb: cover the dish with whole unpeeled potatoes in a single layer, and that is the right amount once they are peeled and sliced. This depends a bit on the depth of your dish. In the photo above my dish was a bit too shallow, so it overflowed the edges. You will have to experiment a little.
A wide, shallow dish gives more of the golden top crust, which I like.
Slice the potatoes thinly.
Cut the onions into quarter rings.
Mix all the ingredients together, except for 1/3 of the cheese.
Mix everything well and pour it from the bowl into the baking dish.
Scatter the remaining 1/3 of the cheese on top as a topping. The cheese is what gives the color.
Bake for 45 minutes to an hour in an oven at 400°F (200°C).
