Baked apple cake is a warm dessert of apple wedges baked under a layer of crushed rusks, brown sugar, and almonds. Simple to make and served warm with whipped cream.
Ingredients
- 500-750 g apples
- ½-1 tsp cinnamon
- 3-4 tbsp sugar
- 15 rusks
- ½-¾ dl dark brown sugar
- 25-50 g chopped almonds
- 35 g butter
To serve
- whipped cream
Instructions
Bake the apple cake
Preheat the oven to 345°F (175°C). Peel the apples, cut them into wedges, and remove the core.
Layer the apple wedges in a greased ovenproof dish, sprinkling with cinnamon and sugar between the layers. Crush the rusks and mix the crumbs with the brown sugar and almonds. Sprinkle the mixture over the apples and dot with butter.
Bake in the middle of the oven for about 45 minutes.
Serving
Serve warm with whipped cream.
Notes
- The apples can be sliced thinly instead of cut into wedges — this gives a more even texture.
- Rolled oats can be used instead of rusks for a more crumble-like topping.
- Tastes good with a pinch of cardamom instead of or alongside the cinnamon.
