Classic Apple Sauce © kvalifood.com
Classic apple sauce made from peeled apples cooked with a little water and flavoured with vanilla sugar. The base recipe used for apple cake, apple meringue, and served with cream.
Ingredients
Yields 4 servings
- 750 g apples
- 2 tbsp water
- 1 tsp vanilla sugar (optional)
- sugar, to taste
Directions
Cook the sauce
Peel the apples, cut them into wedges and remove the cores. Place the apples in a saucepan with the water. Cook, covered, over low heat until tender.
Stir the sauce through and season with vanilla sugar and sugar to taste.
Serving
Serve warm or cold with cream or milk.
Notes
- Use tart apples for the best flavour — sweet apples produce a flat, dull sauce.
- Apple sauce is the base for apple cake and apple meringue.
- Sprinkle sugar over the warm sauce to prevent a skin from forming.
- Can be frozen in portions.
