Pickled herring in a curried sour cream and mayonnaise sauce with apple, capers, and dill. A Danish classic served on dark rye bread.
Ingredients
- 300 g pickled herring fillets, drained and cut into 2 cm pieces
- 100 ml sour cream
- 60 ml mayonnaise
- 1 tart apple, diced small
- 1/2 red onion, finely chopped
- 2 tbsp capers, coarsely chopped
- 2 tsp curry powder
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- black pepper, to taste
- fresh dill, chopped
Directions
Whisk together sour cream, mayonnaise, curry powder, sugar, salt, and pepper. Fold in apple, capers, onion, and dill. Add herring pieces and coat gently. Refrigerate at least 30 minutes. Serve on dark rye bread.
